adult programs Get your tax info here Tax help for seniors The American Association of Retired People (AARP) offers free tax counseling for seniors at the Library every Monday through April 9. IRS-trained volunteers assist with filling out forms and answering questions. Call the Reception Desk on the second level, 392-0100, to schedule an appointment for 9:15, 10:15, or 11:15 a.m. in the Hendrickson Meeting Room South. Tax forms and publications Once again the Library has tax forms available for patrons. Federal and Illinois forms for the year 2000 are located on a display near the Catalog & Internet Desk. Patrons should check at that desk or the Reference Desk for additional forms and IRS publications that can be photocopied. Forms from other states and further assistance are available at the Reference Desk. Nonfiction Writing by Rita Emmett Saturday, March 10, 3:30 p.m. A professional corporate speaker turned author, Emmett wrote The Procrastinator's Handbook as an offshoot of her seminars. Self-Publishing by Burt Levy Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. Frustrated in his attempts to get his first novel, The Last Open Road, published, Levy started his own publishing company and had great success. Writing for Children by Pamela Todd Saturday, March 31, 9:30 a.m. The author of two children's books, Pig and the Shrink and Eleanor's Music, Todd is currently working on a novel. Writing for Children by Sharon Darrow Saturday, March 31, 11:30 a.m. In addition to teaching at Vermont College and Columbia College of Chicago, Darrow has written two children's books and one young adult novel. Colorectal cancer awareness Tuesday, March 27, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Hendrickson Meeting Room A panel of physicians from Northwest Community Healthcare will discuss prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of colorectal cancer. Simon Krizan of Gateway Business Solutions will talk about issues to consider in choosing your business computer. He'll also discuss the advantages of networking computers.
